Green Valley Superfoods was founded by Alex Szymkowski in 2013, who had a life-changing experience on a trip to visit his grandparents in a small rural village in the Bieszczady region of Poland. During his visit, Alex walked through the fields and mountains with his grandfather and absorbed all the knowledge of the amazing fruits and plants that grew there.

He was particularly struck by the wild plants that grew on the mountainous trails - wild strawberry, also known as poziomki in polish, were tiny strawberries but far sweeter. There were fruits similar to blueberries called billberries, with rich dark purple juice they only grew in high altitudes and could not be easily cultivated. Gatherers walk hours just to reach the top and harvest. Unfortunately, these amazing fruits were not found in the United States.

He asked his grandfather "Why don't we have these foods in America, and why do our foods not have this amount of flavor?" His grandfather replied "Unfortunately in America the weight and price is first, marketing is second, at last it comes down to quality." "That's the ultimate reason why your strawberries have no flavor." He was shocked, America a beautiful huge country with many cultures and people from around the world were missing out on these amazing fruits. He didn't want to believe it but unfortunately, it was true... Most are genetically modified to absorb more water to increase weight and cost less.

Alex also discovered other plants not found in the US such as the tart and antioxidant-rich aronia, blackcurrant, redcurrant and gooseberry. Helping his grandfather care for his garden and fields he began to learn and absorb information about each plant's care, the sunlight, water, and growing conditions, Alex was struck by his wisdom.

This experience inspired Alex to share these superfoods with the world, and on the way back to the states Green Valley Superfoods was born.
